CAL FIRE has identified goals for wildfire prevention in San Luis Obispo County, ahead of the 2019 fire season.

This year’s plan includes:

  • Conducting more than 8,500 defensible space inspections
  • Conducting 2,000 to 4,000 acres of prescription burning
  • Manually reducing more than 500 acres of hazardous fuel

There will be at least two seasonal inspections in April.

CAL FIRE said crews will continue working closely with the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council to allocate and utilize grant funding for fire prevention.

Firefighters have also allocated money to purchase new firefighting equipment such as  a skid steer masticator and remote-controlled chipper.

Much of the preparation work will begin after the rainy season.
