Skateboarder killed in Nipomo collision

UPDATE (8:10 a.m.): The man who was killed after getting while riding his skateboard in Nipomo Friday night, and the driver who hit the skateboarder have been identified.

California Highway Patrol identified 24-year-old Matthew Diaz as the victim.

The driver is identified by CHP as 30-year-old Miguel Cuevas.

CHP says the incident is still under investigation.


A 24-year-old man was killed after getting hit while riding his skateboard in Nipomo Friday night.

The California Highway Patrol said he was riding in the southbound lane of Frontage Road, near Hill Road, when he was hit by a vehicle.

Officers said there are no shoulders on the road it happened at and the driver did not see the skateboarder.

The driver has been identified as a 30-year-old man from Nipomo.

Officers do not know which direction the skateboarder was traveling in and do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the collision.

The skateboarder’s name is not being released until his family has been notified.
