SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Police in San Jose say officers shot and killed a woman who drove a suspected stolen car at them early Christmas Day.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Wednesday that a passenger in the car was injured in the shooting early Tuesday morning.

San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia said officers responded to reports of shots fired from a car, which had previously been reported stolen. They tried to stop the vehicle but the driver took off to lead a chase on city streets and the freeway.

The driver, who has not been identified, rammed into a police car before officers opened fire.

Garcia said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a female passenger was treated for wounds and will be booked into jail. No officers were hurt.
