Suspected DUI driver arrested following crash that shut off power to Goleta

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office believes a man who may be responsible for a crash that disrupted power in a Goleta neighborhood Wednesday night was driving drunk.

Sheriff’s deputies said that Erik Andersson, 31, of Goleta, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol following a crash around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies said Andersson crashed his Dodge Challenger into a utility pole and large utility box on Calle Real near Hempstead Avenue.

Power and communication services were disrupted to nearby homes. It took SCE and Cox crews some time to restore service.
