Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an 18-year-old accused of selling drugs near Rincon High School in Carpinteria.
Deputies said they saw Hector Alvarez, 18, around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday across the street from Rincon High School. A deputy recognized him as a suspect who ran away from deputies in a vandalism case in Carpinteria on November 8.
The Sheriff’s Office said that Alvarez was carrying more than $1,100 in cash, MDMA, cocaine, oxycodone, xanax, more than an ounce of marijuana and a BB gun. School administrators told deputies that Alvarez is a former student and was previously asked to leave on Wednesday when he was seen on school property.
Alvarez is in the Santa Barbara County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a BB gun on school grounds and various drug charges. He is being held on $30,000 bail. If convicted of selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, Alvarez could face up to five additional years in prison.
