Police: No evidence of shooting at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital

UPDATE (4:26 p.m.) – Police say the lockdown at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital has been lifted.

No injuries were ever reported, and officers didn’t find any evidence of a shooting. They’re still conducting a follow-up investigation right now.

Roads are closed near the hospital but are expected to reopen shortly.


UPDATE (3:47 p.m.) – All patients and hospital staff are accounted for after reports of a potential active shooter situation at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The hospital tweeted around 3:30 p.m. saying everyone had been accounted for and sheltered in place.


UPDATE (3:10 p.m.) – Bakersfield Police say they are still searching the hospital. Officers say no injuries have been reported, and they haven’t found anyone injured so far.

Police are still asking people to stay away from the area, but school lockdowns were lifted.


(2:51 p.m.) – Bakersfield Police say there is no evidence of a shooting after reports of a potential active shooter at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

The police department says it received the first report at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday. In a tweet around 2:30 p.m., police said no injuries had been reported and there was no evidence of a shooting. Officers are still at the scene investigating and clearing the hospital. People are being asked to stay away from the area.

The Kern County Fire Department also tweeted Tuesday saying there had been a reported potential active shooter, but no reports of shots fired. Firefighters said emergency responders are working to “stabilize the scene,” and more information will be released later.

NBC affiliate KGET-TV says there is a large police presence at the hospital. According to KGET, two elementary schools in the area were placed on lockdown.
