Animal shelters in Santa Barbara County are waiving adoption fees for certain animals as part of a Black Friday Sale.
Seven area shelters are kicking off the “Homes for the Holidays” campaign.
There will be no fees to adopt any animal over the age of six months from Friday through Sunday. Adopters will still need to meet the usual adoption requirements, and families are asked to bring a collar and leash or a carrier for cats who are adopted.
Shelters are very full right now with dogs and cats who were relocated because of the recent wildfires. By adopting a pet during the sale, shelters are able to make room for more dogs or cats that are rescued during fire evacuations so they can eventually be returned to their owners.
“Normally holiday shoppers are waiting in line to get into stores on Black Friday. At seven area animal shelters, our adorable dogs and cats are in line to get out of the animal shelter and into loving homes just in time for the holidays,” said Sean Hawkins, Executive Director for Santa Maria Valley Humane Society. “With fires in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, our shelters are completely filled with relocated pets in an effort to help make room for evacuees.”
Every dog and cat available for adoption has been examined by a veterinarian and has been spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
