Santa Maria Police raised $10,000 for breast cancer research and support while selling pins last month.

Santa Maria Police Department officers and staff teamed up to sell breast cancer awareness pins in October, which is breast cancer awareness month. All 1,000 pins were sold within three weeks for $10 each.

The police department announced the results of the sale on Wednesday.

The net proceeds were given to Mission Hope and Marian Regional Medical Center for breast cancer research and support.

From this year on, officers and professional staff will be allowed to wear the pin during the month of October.
