Dianne Feinstein has been re-elected to the Senate after defeating her opponent, Kevin De Leon, in the California Senate race.
The Democratic incumbent beat out her fellow Democrat opponent with 54 percent of the vote in early results.
Feinstein lost her party’s endorsement to challenger and former State Senate Pro Tem De Leon, but still managed to bring in higher numbers in the polls and in funding.
This marks Feinstein’s sixth term in the Senate.
She says she’ll do everything in her power to provide effective leadership on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Feinstein says the country has been “factionalized and trivialized with rhetoric” and that people must come together.
She also says there’s more work to do to make sure women have strong representation. She was one of the first women elected to the U.S. Senate and placed on the judiciary committee.
She’s now the ranking Democrat and led the party’s efforts against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
