The department partnered with Santa Maria Kiwanis For Kids Foundation to begin the development of Preisker Park. The organizations have raised $100,000 to build the playground, but they are hoping to raise the necessary total of $200,000 through local fundraising.

There are more than 100,000 residents in Santa Maria, but there currently isn’t a play area for children or young adults with disabilities. This partnership plans to change that.

“We’re hoping that what we’ll end up doing is providing a venue where we can get the individuals with the disability and without a disability to come together and play and learn from each other,” said Alex Posada, City of Santa Maria Parks and Recreation Director.

You can donate by dropping a check made out to Santa Maria Kiwanis off at the Parks and Rec building in Santa Maria. There is also a GoFundMe page raising money for the project.
