Cuesta College celebrated the groundbreaking of a new data center on Wednesday.

The 44-foot building will be home to all of the college’s data servers as they are currently located all across the campus. The facility will be equipped with multiple air conditioners to keep the server room cool. It will also feature staff support offices, bathrooms and a break room for employees at the school.

“Cuesta College is able to construct a data center that will provide the high speed, high capacity internet connection that will support cloud computing and secure data transport and storage,” said Cuesta College Superintendent/President Dr. Jill Stearns in a press release.

Putting all of the data servers into one facility will also prevent a major shutdown from occurring for a long period of time because of its backup generator and centralized location.

The building was funded and put into action by Measure “L.” No word yet on when construction of the data center will be finished.
