Paso Robles Police Chief Ty Lewis confirmed Tuesday that Christopher McGuire has resigned from the department, following allegations of sexual assault.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office said it was reviewing a potential criminal case against McGuire involving the allegations in August.

McGuire was placed on leave in May. Police would only say at the time that he was accused of committing a “serious” criminal act and that the case was turned over to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office for investigation.

McGuire has worked for the Paso Robles Police Department since 2012. He officially resigned Monday.

Investigators have not said what, if any charges were recommended against McGuire. The District Attorney’s Office said it is still reviewing the case to see if any criminal charges will be filed against him.
