College is about to become a little more affordable to some special Cuesta College students as the school opened up its scholarship applications Monday for the fall of 2019.
Cuesta invites current and potential students to apply for the chance to earn a scholarship through the school starting on Oct. 1, which marked the same day that the admission application for the fall 2019 term, FAFSA and the California Dream Act applications became available.
“Our goal is for students to be able to complete their FAFSA, general college application, and scholarship application in one sitting, rather than having to come back on three separate dates to complete these applications,” said Cuesta College Director of Financial Aid Patrick Scott.
While Cuesta offers a number of scholarships to its students, school leaders emphasize the Cuesta Promise Scholarship to local students. The scholarship covers two years of fees for free for San Luis Obispo County high school graduates if they qualify.
“We encourage all students to apply for scholarships; many who think they won’t qualify for one end up getting multiple awards,” said Scott.
For the 2018-2019 year, a total of $385,000 was awarded to 248 students at Cuesta College.
The general deadline for scholarships and priority deadline for the Promise Scholarship is March 2, 2019.
Students interested in applying for the scholarships can do so through the Cuesta College website.
