Santa Maria police and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder Thursday morning.

Police responded to an assault victim at a home in Santa Maria just before 5 a.m. Thursday. Officers say the victim had been hit multiple times with some sort of sharp object and was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Police identified the suspect as Isaac Ramirez, 22 of Santa Maria. They issued a warrant for his arrest and determined he might be in the Buellton area.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office was asked to assist in finding Ramirez. Deputies, a K-9 officer, and the Sheriff’s Department Air Unit assisted in the search around Buellton. Santa Maria police detectives and officers from the Special Enforcement Team also helped with the search.

Sheriff’s deputies eventually found him after someone reported a suspicious person in the area. Ramirez was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail. He could face an attempted murder charge.
