Demolition work for the new Santa Barbara Criminal Courthouse was scheduled to start Tuesday and continue for the next few weeks.
Crews will be clearing buildings to make way for the new courthouse at Santa Barbara Street and Figueroa Street. Portions of those streets will be closed or will have limited access.
The new building will relieve space in the historic Santa Barbara County Courthouse across the street, which will remain in place.
Construction of the new building is on hold for now. Santa Barbara County has approved the design phase of the new courthouse, though funding has not yet been fully secured.
