The walls of Cappy Culver Elementary School in Heritage Ranch are looking a little brighter.
Local artist Joe Kowalski was commissioned to create a new mural for the school. It shows the school’s mascot, a dragon, swimming through nearby Lake Nacimiento.The mural was unveiled to students and parents on the first day of school.
Kowalski lived in the Los Angeles area before falling in love with Lake Nacimiento and moving nearby six years ago.
"The lake is shaped like a dragon, so we use the dragon as a mascot," said Kowalski. "We have the lake and the dragon, so I put the two together."
The mural took about 50 hours to complete.
