Students become surgeon for a day at French Hospital Medical Center

Posted

A local hospital is showing off its newest robotic addition.

Students got a first-hand look Thursday at the new surgical system when they participated in "Surgeon for a Day."

The innovative da Vinci Xi surgical system will be using technology in minimally-invasive surgeries at French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

Young kids and high school students got a closer look at how the surgical robot will operate in the future.

"It was like a video game but not a video game because it could be a real life situation, but when I was doing it, I had butterflies; so it was kind of stressful," said Sterling Haley, a 5th grader at Sinsheimer Elementary.

The staff at French Hospital hope the new technology will inspire students to wander in the medical and technical fields of study.
