Gov. Brown signs bill strengthening rideshare passenger protections

Posted

Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill Thursday strengthening protections for rideshare passengers.

The bill was written by Central Coast Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham. The bill was written after an Uber driver was accused of using his driver status to carry out crimes, including rape.

The bill would require ridesharing apps to display a picture of the driver, the driver’s first name, and a picture of the vehicle the driver is approved to use.

The bill passed the State Assembly and Senate unanimously.
