Firefighters are scheduled to conduct a prescribed burn at the U.C. Santa Barbara Lagoon on Friday, Aug. 31.
A half-acre of grassland and coastal sage will be burned in order to reduce the risk of wildfire and help control non-native vegetation, according to Santa Barbara County officials.
The burn is scheduled to take place between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Officials say it could be rescheduled if weather and air quality conditions are not favorable for smoke dispersal.
