Pismo Beach cancels election for mayor, city council

The Pismo Beach City Council has canceled this year’s election for mayor and city council because of a lack of candidates.

Since there was just one person running for mayor and two people running for the two open spots on the city council, those people will be appointed to those offices.

Incumbent Mayor Ed Waage and incumbent city council members Sheila Blake and Mary Ann Reiss will be sworn in again in December 2018, as if the election had been held.

Waage says canceling the election will save the city about $10,000 in staff time.

Voters in Pismo Beach will still be able to vote on county and statewide races in the Nov. 6 General Election.
