Local pottery studio crafting bowls for upcoming Empty Bowls luncheon

Posted

A local pottery studio is helping the Five Cities Homeless Coalition gear up for its annual Empty Bowls luncheon.

Pottery Coast in Grover Beach held a bowl throwing marathon this week.

The ceramic studio says the coalition is in need of hundreds of bowls ahead of the September event and asked the new company for help.

The studio was full Thursday night with potters working to create unique works of art.

Their goal was to make at least 250 bowls.

Pottery Coast is fairly new to the Central Coast, having opened in January.

It sits in the Channel Island Arts Building at 480 Front St. in Grover Beach and is reportedly the only high-fire studio open to the public between Pasadena and the Bay Area.

The Empty Bowls community luncheon is set to take place September 26 at St. Patrick’s Church Hall in Arroyo Grande.
