WATCH: Bodycams show Vacaville police rescuing shelter animals as brush fire flames approach

Posted

The Vacaville Police Department released video of the rescue of dozens of shelter animals as a fast-moving brush fire approached the Solano SPCA building on Saturday.

Police body cameras show officers gathering dogs and cats and tossing them into crates and patrol vehicles in an effort to clear the shelter before the flames arrived.

The Solano SPCA says volunteers and police were able to remove all of the animals except for a few cats that remained in the cat building; however, firefighters were stationed outside the building and were able to protect it from the flames. All of the shelter’s animals are reportedly now in foster homes.

The Nelson Fire broke out Saturday afternoon in the Fairfield/Vacaville area in Northern California and burned more than 2,100 acres. Fire officials said a home and two outbuildings were damaged or destroyed by the flames.
