Mission College freshman class hikes hill to paint “M”

Posted

The Class of 2022 at Mission College Prep put a fresh coat of paint on the "M" on Cerro San Luis Friday morning.

It’s a tradition that happens every year; Incoming students learn more about one another as they get dirty splattering paint before the first day of school on Monday.

"It feels like just yesterday, I came up here with my own class," said Kyra Harris, a junior and spirit leader at the school. "It was really cool. now we’re all, I’m close friends with almost everybody there. This really helped. Painting each other, painting the "M," going down the hill, going up the hill, everything is just together."

Mission Prep student Ray Cattaneo helped build the "M" in the mid-1960s.

The letters on other hillsides all have a story behind them. You can read more about them here
