Pest control companies are staying busy across the Central Coast.
Justin Clegg with O’Connor Pest Control says they receive around 15 calls a day for help fighting pest infestations.
"We’re getting so many calls right now. Our biggest call is spiders, by far," said Clegg. "Having a lot of gophers, a lot of rodents and ants are starting to come in with this warm weather we’re having. I expect fleas will be next on our list."
Clegg says spiders are tough to get rid of because California law only allows pest control technicians to spray two feet up and two feet out, which excludes the second story of a home.
Orcutt resident Lynne McKenna and her husband are doing yard work, hoping to clear away any potential homes for pests.
"I’ve noticed it seems like a few more ants than normal. I haven’t sprayed them or anything because they haven’t come into the house yet, but if they do, they better watch out," McKenna laughed.
Clegg says it’s a good idea to keep your yard maintained, de-clutter your home and seal food in air-tight containers. Using flea protection on your animals can help avoid an infestation in your home.
"As soon as you see something, call somebody before it gets out of control. A lot of the things you see at the store aren’t the same chemicals that we use as professionals." Clegg said.
