Broken-down Pacific Surfliner in Guadalupe backs up CA Amtrak service

UPDATE (1:50 p.m.) – An Amtrak conductor in Guadalupe tells KSBY News the locomotive’s starter is broken. A new locomotive is now in place. (KSBY)UPDATE (1:30 p.m.) – Amtrak Public Relations Manager Olivia Irvin provided this statement:"Amtrak train 774 headed towards San Diego stopped at around 7:52 am south of Guadalupe with approximately 97 passengers on board due to locomotive issues. Amtrak is in the process of accruing rescue locomotives. The train is currently being held at the platform."ORIGINAL STORY – A Pacific Surfliner train with mechanical issues was stopped on Central Coast tracks Wednesday morning, causing a ripple effect of Amtrak service woes.Amtrak tweeted around 8:30 a.m. that Train 774 was stopped between Guadalupe and Lompoc. The resulting delay was expected to last several hours.Amtrak planned to push the train back to the Guadalupe station. A locomotive was being called in to take the train from Guadalupe to San Luis Obispo, where the train started its journey en route to LA and San Diego, according to passengers.A new train 774 was put in motion to move passengers from Los Angeles to San Diego after the delayed train gummed up the tracks providing West Coast service.UPDATE: Train 774 mechanical delays continue. Train 774 will be pushed back to #Guadalupe station to await new locomotive. Original Train 774 will terminate in #LosAngeles.
