Highway 166 crash victim hoisted, airlifted to hospital

Posted

Firefighters and a helicopter helped rescue a man who was seriously injured in a rollover crash Monday on Highway 166.

Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni said the driver went off the road around 2 p.m. west of Cuyama near Rock Front Ranch.

After the man was found 40 feet off the road, firefighters worked to prepare him for a flight to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Crews strapped the man to a backboard and wrapped him in a harness. He was hoisted to Santa Barbara County Sheriff/Fire Air Support Unit Copter 3.

The man in his mid-fifties — the only person in the car — had "major injuries," according to Zaniboni. His medical condition is not known.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
