Rapidly-growing vegetation fire prompts evacuations in Goleta

UPDATE 9:50 p.m. – For the latest on the fire, which is burning out of control after sparking on the 1500 block of Holiday Hill Goleta Friday night, watch KSBY News starting at 10 p.m. or online here


(9:31 p.m.) Santa Barbara County Sheriff deputies are evacuating residents. According to officials, it began from a structure fire that spread to vegetation. 

A Red Cross shelter is being set up at Goleta Valley Community Center located on 5679 Hollister Road. 


(9:10 p.m.) California Highway Patrol is closing Fairview Avenue at Cathedral Oaks. Drivers are encouraged to be cautious when driving through the area and report any other possible fire locations.


Santa Barbara County Firefighters are beginning mandatory evacuations for a fire burning in Goleta, threatening homes.

Firefighters began calling resources to the 1500 block of Holiday Hill just after 8:30 p.m. Friday night. Mandatory evacuations are being issued for residents between Fairview and Patterson.

Five strike teams have been ordered to the area and power lines are down. An air team is en route.
