The trial for a San Luis Obispo woman facing felony charges for causing a deadly crash in Santa Margarita more than three years ago is underway.

Jessica Allred is accused of being intoxicated when she crashed head-on into Denise Lyn Fox, 56, of Santa Margarita on Highway 58 east of J Street in April of 2016.

She later pleaded not guilty to charges, which included gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI causing injury, and driving with a BAC above .08% causing injury. Two of the charges include enhancements of great bodily injury and excessive BAC, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.

Opening statements in the trial began last week.

The jury will begin deliberations once closing arguments are complete.
