A grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for a park in Atascadero is set for next week.
City council officials say the Atascadero Lake Park Playground will open July 3 following the ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
This new park replaced the former youth playground structure, which was smaller and failed to follow specific ADA accessibility requirements.
The new playground has a larger, two-story structure with new swings – including belt swings, toddler swings and adaptive swings – all-weather equipment and rubber flooring for extra safety.
City council, parks and rec commissioners and city staff will be attending the ceremony.
The park was funded by the Housing Related Parks Grant awarded in 2017, plus a grant from Game Time for $73,000. The estimated total cost of the park was about $280,000.
