Construction on expanded ER at French Hospital begins

Posted

French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo has begun construction to expand its emergency room.

The expansion will add 8,600 square feet of space to the hospital. The new building will feature 18 private treatment rooms, specialized rooms designated for critical care, infectious disease isolation, pediatrics and orthopedic emergencies, and fast-track beds for patients with less urgent conditions. There will also be a large waiting room, triage rooms, and a centralized nurse’s station.

Some parking will be impacted during construction but hospital officials say emergency services will not be interrupted.

In March 2017, Peter and Mary Beth Oppenheimer donated $5.5 million to the hospital for emergency services expansion, so the new emergency department will be named the Oppenheimer Family Center for Emergency Medicine at French Hospital Medical Center.
