Multi-million dollar expansion approved for Grover Beach train station

Posted

The Grover Beach City Council has approved a three-million dollar expansion at the train station, to make it safer and more convenient for travelers.

Officials said currently, travelers have to get off trains and cross the train tracks to get into the terminal. After the project is finished, there will be entrances on both sides. It will also add 42 parking spaces, new loading docks and bring the station up to American Disabilities Act standards.

John Schoals, Grover Beach Mayor, said the project has been in the works for several years and officials hope it will help create a bustling center.

"We want to have a multi-moto facility where we have trains and busses and other types of transportation," Schoals said. "We are right across the street from the hotel and conference center so it fits together nicely."

The project is being funded by city funds as well as state and federal grants. Construction is expected to begin in August and finish in spring or early summer.
