Construction crews broke ground in Orcutt Friday for a future retail plaza.
Orcutt Hills Plaza has been in the works for nearly 10 years. Three businesses have already committed: a restaurant, verizon store and a women’s boutique.
There are still a few undecided spots left. Investors say it will help make entertainment more convenient for surrounding neighborhoods.
"This project is going to allow the local neighbors here to walk and have dinner; walk and get a cell phone or get service, or buy clothes," said Jerry Schmidt, president of Schmidt Family Investments. "So it’s a opportunity to walk some place rather than have to drive there constantly."
Construction on the plaza starts next week and is expected to be finished within 10 months.
The project will cost $3-4 million.
