World-famous conductor, daughter to hold benefit for Morro Bay open space

An effort to create more open space in Morro Bay is getting some musical support.

World-renown conductor Kent Nagano will present his daughter, Karin Kei Nagano, at a concert Friday supporting the Morro Bay Open Space Alliance.

Karin is following in her father’s footsteps in a performance at Saint Timothy’s Catholic Church as part of a benefit supporting open space on Cerrito Peak.
Kent Nagano grew up in Morro Bay. He developed a successful international career in classical music and is currently the musical director for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Hamburg State Opera. His mother still lives in the area.

His daughter grew up in larger cities around the world, but he is returning to Morro Bay with her on Friday to raise support for the open space efforts in his hometown.

"There have been so many times, in fact it still happens regularly, where I ask myself why have I had the good fortune to now be doing this, and I can always trace it directly back to the upbringing that I had here in the area," said Kent Nagano.

The performance starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are still on sale.
