The students at Del Mar Elementary in Morro Bay held a big celebration Thursday after the school was named a "California Distinguished School."
Kids cheered as the "Distinguished School" flag was unveiled and raised.
Del Mar was chosen for its kindergarten to second grade reading literacy program.
"We have such an outstanding staff that really gets to know each and every single one of our students, first on a social-emotional level to support them in their social-emotional needs, and then also the academic needs and where each child is at academically in order to help move them forward," said Principal Janet Gould.
Less than five percent of California schools earn this award.
Teach Elementary in San Luis Obispo was also named a Distinguished School this year.
