2 men injured in kidnapping, assault in Santa Ynez Valley

Two men were injured from an assault and kidnapping from the Santa Ynez area on Friday night.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, Mario Borruel, 40, was arrested for allegedly injuring two fellow employees in a van with a knife after 11 p.m.

The press release stated all three men had finished work for the day for a catering service. As they were traveling in the work van, Borruel became agitated and threatened the men with a knife.

A struggle ensued and one of the men suffered a "significant laceration".  He was able to escape the van, but the other man remained inside the van with Borruel.

Santa Ynez deputies responded to Highway 154 at State Street and spoke with the victim who escaped. Deputies were able to located the van, Borruel, and the other victim.

The victim told deputies Borruel allegedly forced him to drive from Santa Ynez to Santa Barbara. He suffered injuries and later sought medical attention at the hospital.

Borruel faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping. His bond is set at $100,000.
