Man dies after accident at Lightning in a Bottle music festival

A young man has died after an accident at the Lightning in a Bottle music festival in Monterey County.

San Luis Obispo officials confirmed that Tyler Schripsema, 23 of Modesto, died at Twin Cities hospital after suffering a swimming-related accident at the festival.Officials have not commented on the details around his death. His autopsy is being handled by the San Luis Obispo County Coroner’s Office. 

According to a GoFundMe page set up by his fraternity brothers, Schripsema had just graduated from California State University Stanislaus three days before the accident. 

His friends said he lived and embraced each and every day and was never one to let a moment slip by.

This is the second death at Lightning in a Bottle in two years. The festival promoter, Do Lab, is currently facing a lawsuit from the family of a 20-year-old woman who died after taking LSD last year.

Baylee Gatlin’s family claims that she was not given proper medical attention at the festival.
