Programming note: Laff removes ‘Roseanne’ reruns

Posted

The fallout from Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet has extended beyond the current reboot of the hit show and is now affecting episodes produced decades ago.

The Laff network is removing the original Roseanne series from its schedule – at least for now.

Here is Laff’s statement regarding Roseanne, released Tuesday:

While we believe viewers have always distinguished the personal behavior of the actress, Roseanne Barr, from the television character, Roseanne Conner, we are disgusted by Barr’s comments this week. Therefore, we are removing the original Roseanne series from the Laff schedule for the time being, effective immediately.

ABC announced earlier Tuesday it had canceled Roseanne in light of a tweet from the show’s star referring to Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to Barack Obama.

"Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj" Barr said in a tweet that has been deleted.

ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey responded with this statement:

Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.

Barr apologized Tuesday in two tweets:

Laff airs on KSBY’s digital channel 6.3.
