Santa Maria City Firefighters Benevolent Foundation hosts charity golf tournament

Posted

The Santa Maria City Firefighters Benevolent Foundation hosted a charity golf tournament Monday to benefit firefighters who have been injured while on the job.

The tournament was held at the Santa Maria Country Club.

The first annual "Fire on the Fairways" Golf Tournament will assist firefighters across the country who may have been injured while risking their lives.

"We’re firefighters. We are there no matter what for our community, but to get the feedback that we’ve got from individuals and the business community has been tremendous," said Jay Wilkins, President of the Santa Maria City Firefighters Benevolent Foundation. "They have all been more than willing to help us out in some capacity, big or small. They’ve been there for us so we want to do this every year and hopefully, they will be there for us every year."

Even though the charity event primarily focused on giving back to risk-taking firefighters, some of the funds raised also benefited the Boys and Girls Club, Muscular Dystrophy Association and people in Santa Maria who are dealing with tough times, have become ill or lost a family member.
