Free chipping event in Los Osos runs through next week

Posted

Local firefighters are encouraging residents to prepare their homes for fire season by clearing dry vegetation and overgrown brush.

Cal Fire is hosting a free neighborhood chipping event in Los Osos starting Saturday, May 5, which is Wildfire Preparedness Day.

The chipping service runs through Friday, May 11.

You can drop off dry branches, leaves, grass and general yard clippings. However, you cannot get rid of wood and vegetation that is wet, iceplants, metal, rocks, concrete or other trash through this chipping event.

Drop-off locations will be set up at the following places:

  • South Bay Blvd. at Los Osos Valley Rd.
  • Santa Ysabel at Scenic Way

If you have any questions about the event, contact Cal Fire Station 15 – South Bay Fire at (805) 764-1053.

The chipping event is funding through a grant provided by the SLO County Community Fire Safe Council, State Farm Insurance and the National Fire Protection Association.
