Construction for a new kind of playground is underway in Atascadero.
Set to be located on the grounds of the Atascadero’s Colony Park Community Center, the Joy Playground Project is designed for children with special needs.
On Tuesday, there was a groundbreaking ceremony.
Organizers say the park will not only have certain safety features for the children, but the space for parents and guardians to be right by the child’s side while they play.
It’ll be fully fenced with poured in place rubber on the ground, in addition to an accessible treehouse with slides and panels to play with. There will also be 12 swings with a harness system, a robin egg that rocks back and forth, plus a teeter-totter.
