Fire breaks out again at homeless encampment in Lompoc Riverbed

Posted

Firefighters worked to put out a fire at a homeless encampment in the Lompoc Riverbed Monday, the same camp where another fire broke out about a month ago.

The Lompoc Fire Department reports access to the location along the riverbed across from 12th and Laurel streets was difficult, although the fire was only reported to be about 10×20-feet in size.

It took crews about an hour to contain and put out the flames.

No one was seen at the encampment, which officials say was spread out over a large area.

It has not been determined how the fire started.

Fire officials say that while dangerous, they expect to see more fires at homeless encampments as vegetation continues to dry out.
