New half marathon course record set during SLO Marathon, Half & Relays

Over 3,500 people participated in the 7th annual SLO Marathon, Half & Relays in San Luis Obispo on Sunday. Runners came to the Central Coast from 38 states and seven countries to participate.

Phillip Reid of San Luis Obispo was the first man to cross the half marathon finish line, setting a new course record of 1:07:29. Grover Beach resident Kara Thorne was the first woman to finish the half marathon with a time of 1:22:30.

In the full marathon, San Luis Obispo resident Landon Woollard placed first with a time of 2:40:40. Lindsey Arrillaga, also a San Luis Obispo resident, was the first woman to finish the full marathon with a time of 3:13:54.

An Atascadero woman, Robyn Schmidt, was the first woman to be inducted into the annual SLO Marathon Hall of Fame.

Participants were cheered on by 1,000 local volunteers and staff.

Live music, vendors, and exhibitors were also featured at the event.

Benefits went to Jack’s Helping Hand, Grizzly Youth Academy, and Team Red, White and Blue.
