SLO Target attempted kidnapping suspect posts bail, pleads not guilty

Posted

The woman charged with the attempted kidnapping of a child from the San Luis Obispo Target last week entered a not guilty plea in court Wednesday morning.

About 15 people showed up at San Luis Obispo County Superior Court to show their support for Rosmary Osorioloaiza during her continued arraignment.

The 50-year-old was arrested the evening of April 18 at the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Police say after talking with sheriff’s deputies in Los Osos, Osorioloaiza agreed to speak with a SLOPD officer at the police station in San Luis Obispo. She was arrested after police say evidence showed she tried to kidnap the boy from inside Target.

Friends of Osorioloaiza, who is reportedly from Colombia, say it is all a misunderstanding because she does not speak English and has only been in the United States for a short time.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s office has charged Osorioloaiza with kidnapping and false imprisonment.

Tuesday, she posted bail, which was set at $50,000, and was released from custody.

Osorioloaiza is due back in court May 2.
