Dance studio suing City of Grover Beach over marijuana-selling neighbor

Posted

The owner of Coastal Dance and Music Academy is suing Grover Beach city officials over allowing a marijuana shop to move in nearby.

By state law, commercial cannabis businesses may not be located within a 600 foot radius of an existing school, day care center or youth center.

The Natural Healing Center, which sells marijuana, was allowed to open within 150 feet of the dance studio, which the studio’s lawyer says is considered to be a youth center.

The dance studio also alleges Grover Beach city leaders used a land use permit to permit Natural Healing Center and accepted an incomplete application that did not include the proximity to Coastal Dance and Music Academy.
