A 15-year-old girl was taken into custody Monday afternoon after she chained herself to a gate outside Cal Poly’s meat processing center on Monday to try to prevent a cow from being slaughtered.

Zoe Rosenberg, an animal rights activist in San Luis Obispo, and another woman, refused to leave the facility after police and fire officials cut the chains.

The incident was streamed live on the Facebook page "Direct Action Everywhere."

Earlier this month, Rosenberg and her mother jumped into a pen at Cal Poly to try to save a pig. The two were detained by campus police and then released.

The Rosenbergs and other activists say they wanted to take custody of the animals so they could be sent to an animal sanctuary.

KSBY has reached out to Cal Poly for comment on Monday’s incident.

This is a developing story and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
