SLO Target attempted kidnapping suspect to be arraigned on criminal charges

Posted

Criminal charges have been filed against the woman accused of trying to kidnap a child from the San Luis Obispo Target last week.

Those who know Rosmary Osorioloaiza say it is all a misunderstanding; however, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office believes there is enough proof to charge her with both kidnapping and false imprisonment.

The charges were filed against her Friday.

As of Monday morning, the 50-year-old remained in custody at San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $50,000. Her arraignment was scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

Investigators say surveillance video shows the woman trying to take the child Tuesday afternoon.

"We were able to obtain video from Target where we could see the suspect approach, take the child’s hand and begin to walk out prior to the father contacting her," San Luis Obispo Police Captain Jeff Smith told KSBY last week.

That portion of the video has not been released to the public. Police say it is evidence in the case against Osorioloaiza, who is reportedly from Colombia, does not speak English and has been in the United States for a short time.
