Some new hotels could soon be coming to Grover Beach.

The potential development is planned for the 1500 block of El Camino Real, which is parallel to Highway 101. Right now, the area is mostly trees and shrubs.

Monday night, the City Council will hear a pre-application for the project.

It includes 145 rooms between two different hotels along with a restaurant and seven housing units.

City Manager Matthew Bronson says economic development is a major City goal and this project would help with that.

Plus, he says the demand is there.

"There is significant demand to vacation the Central Coast. We’re seeing that up and down the area and Grover Beach is no exception. We really see an opportunity to bolster our tourism industry," Bronson told KSBY.

Grover Beach resident Krista Jeffries would like to see a little more balance with the project.

"I understand hotels and the hospitality industry is really important here and that’s what fuels a lot of our economy but I think we need to balance more of what locals need like I know too many people who are literally homeless right now."

Four hundred and fifty new hotel rooms are in the development pipeline in Grover Beach including the Grover Beach Lodge project, with 150 rooms is its final plan-checking phase.

The Urban Commons hotel project with 130 rooms is now under construction on El Camino Real.

Bronson adds that the steep slopes, trees and creek located at the site for this latest proposed project will all be discussed Monday evening.
