Central Coast Living: St. Patrick’s Day celebrations

Posted

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this weekend and the central coast will celebrate the luck of the Irish.

While many will toast to all things Irish this Saturday, there are plenty of family-friendly events to celebrate the holiday.

San Luis Obispo

The Claddagh Irish dancers of San Luis Obispo will show off their sprightly steps this Saturday at several local bars.

Watch them dance at the following locations:

  • SLO Brew’s Rock (855 Aerovista Ln, San Luis Obispo) at 12:45 p.m.
  • SLO Brew (736 Higuera St, San Luis Obispo) at 1:30 p.m.
  • Creeky Tiki (782 Higuera St, San Luis Obispo) at 4 p.m.

Orcutt

Over in Orcutt, the inaugural Old Town St. Patrick’s Day parade will step off at noon Saturday. About 50 entries, decked out in green, will march down Clark Ave rain or shine.

After the parade, enjoy the Community Corned Beef and Cabbage Feed hosted by the Oasis Center.

Los Osos

Take the whole family to Los Osos for a classic car show, barbecue, live music and kids art contest. Nearly $2,000 in prizes will be given away to those channeling the luck of the Irish.

For those adults looking to start the party early, head to McCarthy’s Irish Tavern in downtown San Luis Obispo Friday night to ring in St. Paddy’s Day on Ireland time at 5 p.m.

Another idea – take a hike through San Luis Obispo’s Irish Hills to admire our green scenery.
