John's Video Palace announces closing of Atascadero location

After doing business in Atascadero for 30 years, a longtime favorite movie rental store is closing its doors for good.

John's Video Palace will have a blowout sale of movies starting Saturday through the holidays before it closes in January.

The owner, John Taft, says he couldn't compete with the increase of online movie sales.

John’s Video Palace has been a staple in the community for more than three decades before changing its storefront from its original location on El Camino Real to its new one, next to the Bloom N’ Grow in Atascadero.

Part of the reason for the movingis because the rent in the old location continued to rise and another business owner in the area offered the business a better price for a different space.

Members of the Atascadero community pitched in to keep the rental store alive by offering a new place to set up shop. Taft is thankful that the community stepped up to offer assistance during that transition in July.

The Paso Robles location will remain open.
