The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District has a new superintendent. The board of education voted to hire Antonio Garcia.
He'll be taking over for Dr. Mark Richardson, who retired this past spring. John Davis has been serving as acting superintendent since the end of the last school year.
Garcia is currently the Riverside Unified School District's assistant superintendent.
Garcia says he's honored to be selected for this position.
"I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the board of education for having the confidence in me and my ability to lead the district in this capacity. I’m also grateful to the community of stakeholders who were involved in the input process, including staff and families," said Garcia.
Garcia's contract starts January 1, 2020.
